Even more details about CARC:

Individuals seeking CARC Certification are often interested in pursuing a career as a Recovery Coach outside of the Addiction Treatment Setting, perhaps as a self-employed Recovery Coach or Sober Companion. Increasingly, individuals from outside of NYS and the US seek CARC Certification as it is widely acknowledged and respected as a Recovery Coach credential.
In NYS, many CRPA’s are adding the CARC credential to their toolboxes for added credibility and career advancement.

CARC Recovery Coach Certification requires 60 Hours of approved Training in order to become eligible for NYS Certification through the NYCB. At Recovery Coach University we offer the required and approved ‘Initial’ CARC trainings (50 Hr. Foundational Training) and all others on this page are approved to meet the remaining 10 Hr. CARC ‘Elective’ Requirement. These ‘Elective’ trainings are also approved for CARC Renewal requirements (CARC must be renewed every three years*).
For CARC Certification there is no apprenticeship or IC&RC Peer Recovery Exam. Obtaining your own Supervision (coach/mentor) is considered a best practice.

*All RCU Trainings are ASAP-NYCB approved for CARC and CRPA Certification.

I enjoyed learning concrete tools like motivational interviewing, recovery plan and smart goals. This class gave me a confidence boost as well. It is refreshing to connect to other individuals in the profession from different geographic areas.
