6 Hr. LGBTQ+ Recovery Coaching
LGBTQ+ people are at significantly heightened risk of experiencing mental health challenges, with rates of depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders than their non-LGBTQ+ peers. Most vulnerable are LGBTQ+ youth, for whom the leading cause of death is suicide. This gap reflects lived realities many LGBTQ+ people face: trauma, bullying, rejection, stigma, and discrimination, often alongside housing instability and depression/anxiety. Past negative experiences in healthcare and recovery settings can also lead people to delay help or disengage when they expect judgment. That’s why it’s essential for peer professionals to have practical, trauma-aware skills to build trust quickly and create the kind of connection that keeps people engaged in recovery.
This RCU training program equips participants with best practices for working with LGBTQ+ clients and fosters a safe space for them to explore their personal and professional biases.
